Peace Initiative Update!

Hello Peace Builders,

We are thrilled to report that our first Peace Initiative Activity was a success! We volunteered to help provide food to the hungry at our local food bank, Food for People. It went wonderfully and we’re ready and energized for our December peace building event.

We’ve arranged for our local blood bank to bring their “Bloodmobile” to our office parking lot for a blood drive! Donating one pint of blood can save up to three lives and a shocking 4.3 million Americans need a blood transfusion each year. We hope you will join us in giving back and saving lives by donating blood or arranging  a blood drive in your area.

Our blood drive will be held on Tuesday, December 11th from 11 am to 4 pm in the Stewart School building parking lot across from Arcata High School. If you’d like more information or need directions please call or email the office at                     (707) 825-1714 & info@usservas.org

For more information on hosting a blood drive contact your local blood bank or visit the American Red Cross website at  www.redcrossblood.org/hosting-blood-drive

We hope to see on December 11th!

Meet Robin!

Robin Burkhardt is an Interviewer and host in New York!

What is your Servas background? In 1980 I traveled around the world as a Servas traveler.  Unforgettable!

How long you have been an interviewer? Almost 10 years

Where have you traveled? Recently to Texas.

What is one great memory you have from Servas (as a traveler, host, or interviewer)? Meeting an applicant from Paterson, NJ, who’d been saved from the Holocaust as a baby.

What hobbies do you enjoy? Walking , my animals, mushrooms

What is one of your favorite quotes? Having eyes, we see not.

Why are you involved with Servas, and why do you think that Servas is important? Any way for people to mix as humans can soften the wall that others (news, political entities, religions) may put up.  I like the informality of Servas and its worldwide availability.

Our First US Servas Peace Initiative!

Hello Friends,

We wanted to let you know that our first US Servas Peace Initiative is underway! This Thursday we (US Servas Staff) will be attending our Volunteer Orientation meeting at our local food bank, Food For People, in Eureka, California. Our plan is to volunteer with them this Holiday Season.

We encourage you to set up your own volunteer service with your local food bank or other non-profit organization. Helping others spreads peace and friendship, which are the two main goals of Servas!

We will keep you posted on how our First Peace Initiative turns out. Photos to come!

Here is a link to our local food for more information:
