Good Green Fun in Vermont

Friends in Servas,

Looking for a fun summer adventure for the family? We are thrilled to share a unique opportunity that a fellow Servas member has made possible for you and your family. James Mendell of Vermont has started a non-profit with a similar mission to Servas; to bring together and  strengthen diverse families and communities. How does he do it? Common Ground Center is a democratically run nonprofit, arts, education, and outdoor recreation and retreat center that works to foster strong and healthy families who learn, grow, play and support each other. They work to develop thriving and sustainable communities and with a variety of activities offered at camp there is bound to be something for everyone. Guests can explore nature, take violin lessons, learn about astronomy, attend culinary classes, practice yoga and much more. There are many camps and programs to choose from this summer so join the experience and register today!

June is right around the corner…it is time to get running!

As a non-profit organization U.S. Servas loves to support other non-profit organizations who are spreading peace and good vibes to the communities they support. One such organization is WEAVE, Inc. in Sacramento, California.

Established in 1978, WEAVE has been providing “an array of services to women, men and children in the greater Sacramento region who have experienced domestic violence or have been sexually assaulted. WEAVE also works as part of the Rescue & Restore Coalition to support victims of human trafficking.”  For more information about WEAVE and their services visit their website, http://www.weaveinc.org/home.

For our June Peace Project we will be running in the Women’s Fitness Festival in Sacramento, California on Sunday June 2, 2013.  The 5K run benefits WEAVE, Inc. and their efforts at helping those who have experienced domestic violence and/or sexual assault. Registration is now open!

If you are in the Sacramento area and would like to join us, you can register at http://www.womensfitnessfestival.com/.

We hope to see you there!

Radio and a Yard Sale!

Our May Peace Project was a success! This past Saturday the U.S. Servas Office staff hosted a yard sale benefiting CASA of Humboldt (www.humboldtcasa.org). From 8 AM to 3 PM we sold old knick-knacks, clothes, and toys to residents of Humboldt County. We raised $355.89 for CASA and their efforts in helping foster children in our community! 100% of the proceeds are going directly to CASA.

Thanks to everyone who donated and came out to support us!

May 2013 yard sale

We also were on the radio this past Friday promoting Servas and our yard sale. We were guest DJs on Power 96.3’s morning radio show with Pete Meyer. We encourage you to promote Servas in your community in any way you can, and local radio is a great way to do that. Thanks to Power 96.3 and Pete Meyer for having us; it was lots of fun!
